Field Engineering Corps Imperial Charter
The Field Engineering Corps is a large organization created by Eltán as part of the Fortification Initiative.
It includes the Fortress Construction specialists, who quarter their heraldry with the badge of the Rathkeeps Corps.
It also includes the best assault and infiltration specialists in the Harnic military, training as special forces under the Air Operations group, to be practiced at fighting and deploying from Spell Jammers, Sky Castles, etc. and in defending or assaulting the new Tree Forts. One method that has proven effective is airdrops with wall shields covered in hooks, allowing the soldiers to more safely tangle in boarding net and razor wire, as well as providing them with cover from missile fire by defenders while they cut their way in.
The Test Pilots are a cadre largely drawn from the Spellcaster Recruitment and Training Initiative, primarily in young multi-class casters. They test and operate new flying devices, and generally carry spells to get them down safely when their gliders malfunction. They are experimenting with ship to ship efforts in the sky, as well as assault and infiltration of ground positions. Dropping things can be an effective military tactic if you are high enough up that you don't get shot. A great deal of the new tech developed by the R&D department gets first issued to Air Operations and the Test Pilots.
The Biology Section is experimenting with trees and other plants for tree forts, in addition to beehives and other animal life that may be a good fit for fort deployment. They also draw much of their strength from the Spellcaster Recruitment and Training Initiative in the form of new Clerics and Mages who are into that sort of thing. They work with the Druid order as well when the Druids have time. They are working with Nahre Lotus cultivars, and protocols for secure water production. The test ground for first deployment is Paurgiliath Peacekeepers Fortress PK#3 on the Exiles' Craw. They are working towards more effective cooperation with The Great Shipyard's Elven Hull growing projects, and the various Silvanesti and Elven Confederate Navy (ECN) participants.
The War Engines group researches and improves Ballistae, Harpaxii, Catapults, etc., as well as manufacturing them and training others in their use. They are developing many variations on the Polybolos, in different scales, with experimental drives, but interchangeable parts. War Engines nominally includes the R&D department that runs the Imperial Think Tank, though members of many other sections participate.
The Art in Works Department has crafters and artists working up beautiful but functional designs for manufacturing. They have oversight engineers who veto anything that lessens utility, but create elegant patterns for all magically fabricated equipment.
