Character History

Iemochi, known in his childhood as Kikuchiyo, was the eldest son of the 11th generation Wakayama domain lord Tokugawa Nariyuki, and was born in the domain's residence in Edo Kara Tur. At age 1, he was adopted as the heir of the 12th generation Daimyo Tokugawa Narikatsu, and succeeded him, taking the name Tokugawa Yoshitomi following his coming of age. However, he was named as the successor to the main Tokugawa house due to the 13th shogun, Iesada, being heirless. The choice of Yoshitomi was not without conflict; there were other factions in the government who supported Tokugawa Yoshinobu or Matsudaira Naritami for shogun; it must be said that both of them, as opposed to Iemochi, were adults. It was upon assuming the office of shogun that Yoshitomi changed his name to Iemochi.

On the 5th day of the 3rd month of Bunkyu, Shogun Iemochi travelled in a great procession to the capital. He had been summoned by the emperor, and had 3,000 retainers as escort. As part of the Union of Court and Bakufu movement, Iemochi was married to Imperial Princess Kazu-no-Miya Chikako, daughter of Emperor Ninko, and younger sister of Emperor Komei, but attempts were made on his life due to his political ideology at the age of 21. The Seven Swords clan put an end to the short marriage, in an attempt to kill Lord Tokugawa both his wives were killed instead as well as all his advisors. He knew his death was imminant, so in a political exchange he swore fidelity to an upstart Emperor and assumed the role of general for the Free Imperia, then… Entered Exile. He is intensly loyal and serious, but always maintains a slight sadness about himself. His successor, Yoshinobu, would be the last Tokugawa shogun, before sweeping changes happened in Kara Tur and the Shu Empire.

Full Armor O-Yoroi - Tokugawa Shogun + 3

This is the ceremonial o-yoroi of the Clan Chief Tokugawa. Beautifully styled, from the best materials and workmanship, the armor is lacquered in black with a large triple hollyhock of Clan Tokugawa picked out in red and gold. In addition to an Armor Class bonus of +3, it carries the following minor enchantments:

- The Somen (full face mask) is shaped into a grotesque mustachioed face, and amplifies the wearer's voice so that shouted commands can be heard at great range, up to a mile even in the clamor of battle.

- The kabuto helmet has a horn that mates perfectly with the Tokugawa Maedate (crescent fern leaf shaped ornate golden crest). When the Maedate is worn, all troops in sight under his command have +1 to morale and +1 to saves vs. fear.

- The back of the o-yoroi is bracketed for two sashimono banners. When troops can see their commander's banners displayed, the wearer's charisma(leadership) is +2, for purposes of commanding them.

The o-yoroi is a complete suit of laced armor. It includes kote, do-maru, sode, haidate, kabuto, and sune-ate. In addition, it has a number of smaller pieces including the mempo (face mask), nodawa (neck guard), wakibiki (armpit guards), sendan-no-ita and hato-wo-no-ita (guards for the front of the armpit). The o-yoroi is made as a matched set, the colors and patterns complimenting each other. This also improves the fit of the armor, giving the o-yoroi a better armor class than a collection of unmatched pieces.

Since o-yoroi are expensive and highly decorative, they are often worn for ceremonial occasions or major battles, but are seldom used in everyday situations.
