Once called the 'gold shining river' by the ancient Numenoreans for the gold they mined at it's headwaters, and known to the modern natives as the River Krîs, the Great Southern River is still rich enough in ore to pan its riffles.

Running from the South Valley suburbs of Nexus Prime Southward along the western edge of the jojojopo peninsula, it exits in a strong natural harbor at IN#2, where the local scions of Numenor had their capital Kadar Abar-narîk (Ad. “Citadel of Iron Eagles”) in the second age.
