Safehelm is the great fortress of Duchy Stronghold. It controls the Eastern end of Safehelm Isthmus between Great Stronghold Lake and Lake Safehelm. Faced by the river which connects the lakes, it is backed by a solid moat, large enough that it would also allow shipping to pass. Its breakwalled harbors are protected enough for any storm the lakes might spawn. The Eastern end is fortified by Duke Rocha's outpost DR#1.
The peninsula being fortified on both ends, it contains the most valuable agriculture and development in Duke Rocha's domain. Caraway, cumin, and fennel are grown here and used in the distillation of Stronghold Kümmel. The river is channeled on the fortress side to turn wheels that power great mills and looms to weave Duchy Strongold's wool harvest, as well as significant workshops and armories. Though hulls are not built here, significant repairs and refits are performed on wet hull and Spelljamming ships.
